It’s April 11 and throughout the day here in west Michigan we have gotten 5-6 inches of wet snow. While I’d much prefer sun and spring flowers this time of year, Haven eats it up….literally.
Haven loves eating snow. This past winter she seemed to discover this love of the white stuff. She’d often ask to go outside just to eat snow. Getting her water intake from a bowl wasn’t as cool as running her bottom jaw through the snow as she ran. Or sometimes she will just munch like she’s a cow grazing. Andrew and I laugh at her, thinking that she sees the backyard as one huge snow cone. She does stay away from the yellow snow though.
In addition to eating snow Haven loves playing in it. She’ll run loops along the perimeter of the yard just to have fun. And when she’s tired she’ll plop down in the snow to cool off. She’s not a fan of snow or rain pelting her in the face when she’s outside but if it’s not coming down too hard she’s content to be outside, although we’ll often see her squinting trying to see through the precipitation.
Beacon on the other hand hates being outside when anything is falling from the sky. If he has to go to the bathroom he’s quick about it. Sometimes he’ll look outside and see that it’s snowing or raining and walk away from the sliding glass door. Unless he’s swimming Beacon prefers to be dry.
If Haven can enjoy a significant spring snowfall then maybe I can too, if only for a minute or two.
